Super Intelligent Foo

Foo and the $12,000 Website

Bar sells a baker a $12,000 website full of tricks. Foo shows her the honest way.

With Foo, Bar and Dana.

  1. In a city office at dusk, Bar, a grinning man in a grey-purple superhero suit and crimson cape, slides a long invoice across his desk to Dana, a bakery owner who clutches her cheeks in shock, with a tall stack of gold coins on the desk and website samples on an easel behind him.
Bar sells Dana a five-page website for $12,000.
  2. Bar tips a funnel of tiny identical cupcakes onto a website on a big computer screen until the page is a crowded heap of cupcakes, while a small video call of Dana looks on worried.
Then he stuffs every page with the same keywords, over and over.
  3. Bar rubs his gloved hands together slyly beside a row of five identical cardboard cutouts of a smiling man in a green sweater, each holding a sign with five gold stars.
And he adds fake five-star reviews from people who aren't real.
  4. Foo, a smiling man in a yellow superhero suit with a brain badge and a blue cape, arrives with his chest glowing; the cardboard cutouts lie flat on the counter, a storm cloud shaped like a down arrow hangs over the website, Bar looks shocked and Dana stares.
Search engines aren't fooled. The site sinks.
  5. At a bakery table, Foo points at a laptop showing real cake photos while a delighted Dana holds her cheeks, with printed cake pictures, a small plain invoice and a card of hearts on the table.
Foo shows Dana the honest way: real words, real customers, a fair price.
  6. In Dana's bright bakery, Foo stands hands on hips as Dana shows customers a website with a rising chart and children point at cakes, while Bar walks out the door in the corner, shoulders down, holding a single coin.
Honest sites win. Bar goes home with one coin.
